Keith Suspended Five Games for Elbowing Daniel Sedin

By Ben Schreiber

Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith has been suspended five games by the NHL for his elbow to the head of Daniel Sedin without pay. Sedin is currently out indefinitely and the seriousness of his injury is unknown.  Before Keith elbowed Sedin he got hit in the head by Sedin which went unpenalized. I think that if Shanahan suspends Keith then he also has to suspend Sedin.  This is a controversial call made by Shanahan but nevertheless Keith will be back in time for the playoffs.

Devils Trade for Veteran Defenseman Zidlicky

By Ben Schreiber

The New Jersey Devils have traded Nick Palmieri, Kurtic Foster, Stephane Veilleux, a 2nd round pick and a conditiional third round pick to the Wild in exchange for Marek Zidlicky. The unhappy 35-year old was at odds with coach Yeo. As a Devils fan, I first thought the they gave up way too much for an old and digruntled defensman with no goals.  I thought that at 35, Zidlicky was nearing the end of his career and definitely not needed with the Devils.  I then realized that the Devils gave up two extremely mediocre prospects and a pair of draft picks for a veteran defenseman that the Devils badly needed with an extremely depleted d-line.  If Zidlicky can play well in New Jersey than I think the Devils win this trade.

Hal Gill Traded to Preds

By Brian Andrzejewski

Hal Gill, Montreal Canadians defenseman, was recently traded to the Nashville Predators. Gill is an important part of the Habs defense and a veteran leader. Although he could be nearing the end of his career, I personally think he was too important to trade away for Montreal.

Moves in Montreal

By Brian Andrzejewski

When any team fires their coach and makes a trade for an all-star veteran defenseman, you know they are in for big changes. In the past week the Montreal Canadiens have both fired their coach Jaques Martin and made a trade to aqcuire defenseman Tomas Kaberle. Personally, I thought Jaques Martin was doing a good job coaching, but he wasn't exceeding the expectations of Habs owner, Geoff Molson. Molson went on to hire Randy Cunneyworth as the interim coach, but the mayor of Montreal was not in agreement. He wanted the Habs new coach to be French speaking, which Cunneyworth is not. Cunneyworth was the assistant coach of the Canadiens and has coached the AHL team in past years. Between this move and aquiring Tomas Kaberle, I think the Habs are attempting to make a run for the cup. All teams work for the ultimate goal, Lord Stanley's Cup, but not all teams can make it there. I think the Habs finally realized it and are trying to become a cup contender once again for this season or future seasons.
